Multiple homeowners on our block have received aggressive buyout offers from the same company. They're targeting older Black homeowners and showing up unannounced. The offers are well below market value. We believe they're trying to pressure vulnerable homeowners.
Checked ACRIS and found a deed transfer on my property that I never signed. The document was notarized by someone I've never met. I immediately called the HOPP hotline and filed a complaint with the Sheriff's office.
Received a letter that looks official saying my property has a tax lien and I need to call a number immediately to resolve it or my home will be seized. The phone number is not a city number. Looks like a scam to get personal information.
A family on our block discovered that their deceased grandmother's house had been sold without their knowledge. Someone forged the heir's identity documents and sold the property to an investor. They found out when new owners showed up to evict them.
Someone posing as a contractor offered free roof inspections in our neighborhood. They were collecting homeowner information and taking photos of property documents. Several elderly homeowners signed paperwork they didn't understand.
A man showed up at my mother's house claiming he could help her with overdue taxes. He pressured her to sign paperwork. My brother happened to be visiting and turned him away. The man came back twice more.
My elderly neighbor discovered a forged deed was filed on her property when she went to refinance. Someone transferred ownership to an LLC she never heard of. The forged deed was recorded through ACRIS. She contacted HOPP immediately.
